The UPSC is not just an exam—it’s a journey of values, vision, and resilience.
Shah Margi Chirag, who secured AIR 4 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, exemplifies that spirit.
Hailing from Ahmedabad, Margi’s story is a powerful reminder that with perseverance, purpose, and the right guidance, even the most ambitious dreams can come true.
Who is Shah Margi Chirag?
Margi is no stranger to hard work. A Computer Science Engineer from LD College of Engineering, she decided early during her college years that she wanted to join the civil services, not to earn a job, but to create an impact from the grassroots.
2024 was her fifth attempt, and the journey included:
- Three Mains
- Two Interviews
- And now—an All-India Rank in the Top 5.
“AIR 4 was a sweet surprise,” she shared. “My family is still overwhelmed and emotional. We’re still processing the result.”
A Personal Mission with a Social Mindset
Margi chose Sociology as her optional subject, a conscious decision shaped by her desire to develop a deeper social understanding.
Her goals? Two things she is deeply passionate about:
- Quality primary education
- Women’s empowerment—holistic, not just financial
Despite a strong science background, Margi knew that technical knowledge alone wasn’t enough to drive change. She wanted to understand society from the inside out—and that’s exactly what Sociology gave her.
Shah Margi Chirag’s Story of Strength and Support
Margi lost her father, Chirag Shah, in 2017 due to cardiac failure. Her mother is a private school teacher, and her younger brother is currently studying at IISc Bangalore. Despite the personal loss and academic pressure, Margi’s strength never wavered.
“My real motivation—apart from what the civil services offers—is my family and friends,” she said. “I owe this success to their constant support and faith.”
